Open Mic Poetry featuring Pat Parnell and Harvey Shepard
Start: 6:30 pm
End: 8:00 pm
Join us for our monthly open mic poetry night (it comes around the second Wednesday of the month like clockwork). Our readers for February are beloved local poets Pat Parnell and Harvey Shepard.   Pat Parnell is a poet, teacher, and journalist. She is Professor Emerita at Chester College of New England, (formally White Pines College). She has published two books,  Snake Woman and Other Explorations, Finding the Female In Divinity, (2001) and Talking With Birches, (2004). In addition her work has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. Don Murray, Boston Globe columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner, called her poetry "a gift for each reader."   Harvey Shepard is a retired UNH Physics professor and is active with the Portsmouth Poet Laureate Program. His work has appeared in Poetry East, Poet Lore, The Connecticut River Review, Psychotherapy Review, Roanoke Review, the Portsmouth Herald and in numerous anthologies and online journals. After the featured readers we open the floor for an open mic. Bring one or two poems to share, or just come to listen.

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
