Local author Gary Sabbag
Start: Jun 28 2012 4:00 pm

Don't miss local author Gary E. Sabbag sharing from his new picture book, Myrtle and Chuck.

It all started with a picture postcard. Writer Gary E. Sabbag and his girlfriend, Lolly, were not getting along at the time. Lolly’s sister, Lee Ann, mailed them a postcard showing a turtle and a duck sitting together on a rock in the middle of a pond. Lee Ann wrote on the postcard: “This depicts the two of you perfectly.” This gave Sabbag an idea. He proceeded to use the humorous, ironic, paradoxical and touching image to write a book, Myrtle and Chuck.

Sabbag started and finished the book years ago. He is just now publishing the book because he feels the time is now. “The story has been read by teachers and me in schools in Florida, Arizona and Washington state,” Sabbag said. “Everyone seems to enjoy it, which is very gratifying.” The story was printed by the University of New Hampshire press using 30% vegetable ink.

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
