Father & Daughter Kevin & Hannah Salwen, authors of The Power of Half: One Family's Decision to Stop Talking & Start Giving Back

The Power of Half is the story of one family's efforts to make a real difference in the world.

It all started when Hannah, then 15 years old, saw a homeless man juxtaposed next to a gleaming Mercedes in her Atlanta neighborhood. She said to her father, Kevin, "If that man didn't have such a nice car, then that guy could have a meal." This revelation changed their lives. As a family, they started Hannah's Lunchbox, and decided to sell their historic mansion, move to a smaller home, and donate half the proceeds of the sale ($800,000!) to charity. They vetted charities to find a worthy cause and finally chose to support several villages in Ghana through the Hunger Project. The Salwen family visited the villages where their money helped build community centers, both which serve up to a dozen villages and house micro-loan offices, health centers, food storage, and meeting halls. In the end their act of generosity, Salwen said, not only helped people half a world away, but also deepened the relationships within his own family.

Join us for this special opportunity to meet a truly inspirational family. Find out what you can do to "give half" in your daily life-- half your TV time, half your allowance, etc. Bring your whole family to learn how you can change your world!

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
