Sopha Raday, author of Love in Condition Yellow

May 15 2010 6:00 pm
May 15 2010 7:30 pm

We're honored to be hosting Sophia Raday, author of the fantastic memoir, Love in Condition Yellow.

Sophia Raday lives in Berkeley, California, with her soldier/police officer husband, their two children, a bipartisan dog, and assorted firearms. In marital disagreements, Sophia is apt to say, "Honey, you aren’t being present with me." Whereas her husband might say, "You’re messin’ up, Troop!" Back when Sophia thought she couldn’t possibly be a writer, she studied International Relations at Stanford University and took classes from Condoleeza Rice. She was also a student activist. After graduating from Stanford, Sophia worked in local politics, traveled, worked as a carpenter, and eventually got her masters degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy.

Elizabethe Plante says of Love in Condition Yellow, "Sophia Raday takes on the subject of her unlikely marriage in this contemporary red-state meets blue-state version of the age-old quest for the perfect dyad. The tension between the two drastically different world views gives birth to a deeper and, dare I say, greater understanding of what love is, and what it requires of us."

Join us for what will be a fascinating conversation on values, love, and what really matters.

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
