Spencer Seidel Launch Party!

May 1 2011 4:00 pm

We are so thrilled to be hosting the launch party for the latest book from Exeter's own PublishingWorks, Dead of Wynter by Spencer Seidel.

There is the Maine of summer — warm, picturesque, filled with vacationing families — and then there is the Maine of winter — where the cold creeps into your bones and refuses to leave. Alice Wynter Dunn thought she’d never have to go back to her hometown of Redding, Maine, where secrets are buried under a thick layer of ice and the chill emanates from people’s hearts.

A phone call in the middle of the night brings horrific news: Alice Wynter’s father has committed suicide out on a lonely highway in her hometown of rural Redding, Maine. Her alcoholic twin brother is missing and presumed dead. All the result of a downward spiral fueled by years of alcohol abuse and poisonous mutual hatred between father and son.

Spencer Seidel lives and works in suburban New Jersey but has also called Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine home. His love of reading and books began as a child after discovering Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Later, he was drawn to darker work by authors such as Stephen King, Peter Straub, and Jack Ketchum, who continue to influence his dark novels and short stories.

“DEAD OF WYNTER cracks like footsteps on frozen branches. You’ll have trouble putting this down until the last page has been turned. This is not only a fine first novel, it’s a terrific novel, period.” —Michael Palmer, New York Times Bestselling Author

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
