Two Caregiving Books Talk to Each Other: Holly Whiteside and Jennifer Allen on The Ins and Outs of Asking for Help

Oct 16 2010 2:00 pm
Oct 16 2010 3:30 pm

Memoirist Jennifer Allen and Caregiver's Coach Holly Whiteside return for Part Two of their series. For every section read by Jennifer Allen from "Bone Knowing," her powerful memoir of caring for her husband, Holly will respond with concrete relevant  tools from her self-help handbook, "The Caregiver's Compass." Together, they will guide caregivers down the sometimes murky and rocky path of asking for and receiving real support. What makes asking for help difficult? How do you ask in a way that maximizes success? Can asking for help even be empowering? Join us for this unusual event and find out for yourself.

A guidebook down the gentle path to greater peace.

"'The CareGiver’s Compass' is a required text in the wellness classes I teach to psychologists, hospice workers, coaches and family members who are caregivers. It is contemplative and action-oriented, sustainable fuel for the caregiver’s journey.
I asked a client, 'What is alive in you?'
His answer: 'Relief and gratitude that I read The CareGiver’s Compass…I’m not alone anymore.'"
—Ann Marie McKelvey, LPCC, PCC, International Wellness Coach Trainer

Jennifer Allen has always found venues to express what resonates deeply and has helped others do the same. In her memoir, Bone Knowing, she reveals the bittersweet
realities of living and loving while slowly losing her husband to cancer.

Bone Knowing is a story about choosing love despite ever-slimming odds--because none of us really know when our time is up.

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
