Kids' Events, Programs, and More

One of our very favorite things to do here at Water Street Bookstore is to put the perfect book in the hands of a child. We believe that reading is such an important part of childhood. Children who read and are read to have deeper vocabulary and stronger critical thinking skills so do better in school and on standardized tests. But reading is so much more than just a means to an end. Introducing your child to reading is like buying them a round-the-world ticket with no expiration date. And the experience of sharing stories is a memory that your child will never forget. To that end, we'd like to do everything we can to help get you and your children excited about reading. From parties to contests to specially tailored advice, we are here for you.

Why Shop Indie?

For every $100 you spend at a local indie business, $68 will stay in the community. When you spend that same $100 at a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.

Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own market: the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.

You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. Why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community enhances its appeal.

Even more reasons to shop indie...
