Join us for our annual Banned Book Night in which we get together to celebrate books that have been banned and the freedom we should have to read what we want! Each year, we have a group of community members read short passages from their favorite banned books, as well as have the head of the NH chapter of the ACLU share some thoughts on censorship, freedom, and the written word. It's always a powerful evening! Plus, refreshments. Join us!
Banned Books Week 2019 is September 22-28. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted with removal or restricted in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship. A list of frequently banned and challenged books can be found here.
